Grimshaw St Early Learning Centre Playground Refresh
A weekend playground refresh that improved safety, presentation and usability at Grimshaw St Early Learning Centre.

Understanding the Challenge
At Grimshaw St Early Learning Centre, outdoor play is a big part of the day-to-day program. The children spend a lot of time in the playground and garden areas learning, exploring and staying active, so these spaces are heavily used and play an important role in the centre’s environment.
Over time, that constant use had taken its toll. The playground and garden areas had become overgrown and tired, while sandpits and soft-fall areas were running low and no longer presenting as they should. The space was still full of potential, but it was clearly ready for some care and attention to bring it back to life.
Our Strategic Intervention
We attended site over the weekend with a crew of five to complete a full playground refresh with minimal disruption to the centre’s operations. The works focused on improving the presentation, safety and usability of the outdoor areas so the team could return to a cleaner, fresher and more functional space on Monday morning.
As part of the upgrade, we removed more than 15m³ of contaminated material and replenished the grounds with over 25m³ of soft-fall mulch, triple-washed white sand and fresh garden mulch. We also power broomed the surfaces and refreshed key areas of the playground, including the olive groves, balance beam zone and surrounding garden spaces, helping restore the overall look and feel of the site.

Transformational Results
By Monday morning, the difference was immediate. The playground felt cleaner, safer and far more inviting, with refreshed surfaces and revitalised garden areas bringing new energy back into the space. The team and children were blown away by the result. What had been an overgrown and worn outdoor area was transformed into a refreshed environment that better reflected the centre’s strong focus on outdoor play, learning and exploration.
